Is it me? Or, does it seem like there has been a recent increase of interest in what constitutes appropriate work attire for the legal profession? Plus, all the attention seems to be placed on female attorneys. I completely agree that employees should adhere to their company’s dress code. However, we do not have to dress as if there is a uniform store for attorneys. Who said that we have to stick to blue, black, and the occasional beige colors? Some of these critics literally look as if they have one foot in the grave. But, yet they want to offer “fashion” advice to all the women in the entire legal industry by telling everyone to conform to what a 60-year old female would wear. And what about our male counterparts? Is it okay for them to wear sunglasses inside the office all day? Oh, come on, you know you’ve seen this. Is it okay for them to wear business suits with clashing/dirty/ripped shoes? Or worse, the male colleague who refuses to wear an undershirt underneath his dress shirt exposing the fact that his chest is bigger than yours? Ok, now I’m tripping. But, that last one is a pet peeve of mine.
